I will be in Scotland with a tour group from March 26th through April 3. I will be in Glagow,Edinburgh and Inverness. My family is from Dundee. I plan to take a train from Glasgow to Dundee to see where my family originated. Is there any other "Henderson" sites I should see.
Thanks,
Johanna

Hi Cousin Johanna
Really late having a chat on the subject of Henderson places to visit on the eve of your trip. Did you look at the info here on the Clan Henderson web site--please do so. Biggie would be the Fordell Castle in Fife (across the water from Edinburgh, hard to find and we are not welcome but folks often go anyway. Henderson Stone in Glencoe (Argyll). Tough to find, but stop at the visitors center coming down the hill and they will tell you about the Massacre there--we were the ones being massacred. The stone is in a crofter's filed off the main road going north into town. If nothing better, visit the church, they may help you. Also interesting to go to the MacDonald Centre on Skye--look for info on the MacIains--we have a history with them from Glencoe. Hendersons also came from Caithness--if you get there, look for the Clan Gunn museum. Russ Henderson, Editor of An Canach Edited by edancan - 22Mar2008 at 5:21pm |

Johanna,
There are Hendersons located all over Scotland. Mine are in a small town just north of Scotland called Dunblane. I'm still trying to figure out where they came from to that place. The point is enjoy the entire country and culture. AFter my first visit there I realized that I enjoyed just looking at the place where my ancestors came from. It's all good. If you know the places where your ancestors originated pay attention to those first but know that Scotland isn't that big and they most likely travelled to most locations depending on their circumstances. The most important thing is to just have fun and drink it all in. Sincerely, Terry Henderson |

Johanna,
Sorry about my family location. It is just north of Stirling, not Scotland. Terry |

Hi Johanna, hope you had a great time in Scotland, my family are from Dundee & Forfar (lived there in early 1800s) so maybe related, would have been good to meet up or see if we are related, I have only done my direct lineage at the moment.
Allen
