It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of a dedicated member of our Society, Warren Christopher Henderson, 77, of West Monroe, La., on Friday, June 29, 2012. Here is the obituary published in the Arab, AL Tribune:

Mr. Henderson was born March 10, 1935, in Jonesville, La., to Walter and Hope Keathly Henderson.

After graduating from school in Jonesville and Ferriday, La., in 1854, he joined the United States Army in 1956 and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2 by his 1976 retirement. His service included five years in Okinawa, Japan, with more than two years of that time in South Vietnam. He also served in Germany and temporary duty to all SEATO nations in the Pacific Theater.

He was awarded the RVN Campaign Medal with Five Stars, the Viet Nam Service Medal and the Meritorious Unit Citation Ribbon with One Palm.

He was a long-time member of the VFW, the Clan Henderson Society and the First Presbyterian Church of Prattville.

He is survived by his wife: Kathryn P. Roberts Henderson of West Monroe, La.; children and in-laws: Donnie and Loraine Henderson of Mississippi, Kathy and Bruce Smith of Tennessee, David Henderson of Huntsville, Kim and Wayne Cooper of Hazel Green, and Vikki and Anthony Reynolds of Arab; stepchildren: Jo and Jose Zapata of Texas and Wanda and Bill Hall of Louisiana; siblings and in-laws: Wayne Henderson of North Dakota, Mary Ann and Bill Devlin of Pennsylvania, Virginia and Freddie Smith of Kentucky, Bettye Phillips of Tennessee, Opal Sue and Lee Lambert of Missouri, Rowena Davis of Kentucky, Herman an Lois Henderson of Indiana and Michael Henderson of Kentucky; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Baby Boy Henderson.

The graveside service, with full military honors, a Scottish piper and Patriot Guard escort, was held July 3, 2012, at Oakhill Cemetery in Prattville.

Pallbearers were Jason Reynolds, Matt Henderson, Shane Martin, Cody Henderson-Bice, Brock Stephens and Chris Freeman.
